Bengaluru, Mar 6: In addition to the Forensic Science Laboratory established by the State Police Department in Hubballi, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday, March 6, a Narcotics Detection Wing will be added soon.

Addressing the function after declaring open the Forensic Science Laboratory, the Chief Minister said the new laboratory incorporates full-fledged DNA, Cyber, Mobile, Documentation and Audio-Video wings and a Narcotics Detection Wing will be added soon to make the entire laboratory complete.

As many as 80 scientists have been recruited, who will be deputed to Hubballi and Ballari after completing the necessary training, he said.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of law and crime detection and said science, training and constant technological updation were necessary so that the police were fully competent to handle modern types of high-tech crimes.

Appreciating efforts of the State Police in seizing large quantities of narcotics and drugs, he said the State police had seized the total quantity of drugs and narcotics in one year that was recovered in the entire country over the last five years. “This is a great achievement,’’ he said.

Bommai said the Forensic Science Laboratory at Hubballi must become the most modern and efficient laboratory of its kind in the entire North Karnataka region.

The Chief Minister said establishment of Forensic Science Laboratory at Hubballi and Ballari had been promised in last year’s budget. It is a matter of great pride that the promise has become a reality now as such establishments play a prominent role in detection of cybercrimes and other frauds, he added.

Budget lays stress on job creation

The Chief Minister said Karnataka’s budget for the year 2022-23 gives priority for employment generation and development of the Northern Karnataka region, renamed as Kalyana Karnataka by encouraging start-ups and small as well as medium enterprises based on local produce and talents.

Clusters of textiles, FMCG, Semi-Conductor and other areas have been identified and special attention as well as encouragement will be given to enterprises laying stress on job creation for all types of youth.
All the programmes and schemes will be implemented in a time-bound manner, he said.

The Chief Minister later inaugurated the Sri Jagajyothi Basaveshwara Amargol AMPC Yard entrance, Cattle Market and Onion Storage Godown in Hubballi.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, Textile Minister Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, legislators Prasad Abbayya, Saleem Ahmed, DGP Praveen Sood and other dignitaries attended the functions.

The chief minister also unveiled the bronze statue of late Sri Vedamurthy Kadayya Hiremath at Hubballi. Rambapuri Jagadguu Dr Veerasomeshwara Swamiji of Balehonnur was present.
