Bengaluru, Mar 8: The State Government will modify the Arivu educational loan scheme for the students belonging to minority communities after holding discussions with officials concerned, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, March 8.

Replying to a question from Priyank Kharge of Congress during the question hour, Bommai said the latest guidelines have restricted the scheme to students qualified under the NEET and CET tests who have joined professional courses.

The scheme would be expanded to students obtaining admissions in BA, B Com, BSc and other degree courses after talks with officials concerned, he said.

In view of new guidelines issued last year, the number of students receiving loans declined from 6,136 in 2020-21 to 1279 in 2021-22.

Unlike in the past, now NEET and CET test qualified students, who have obtained admissions in professional courses have been made eligible for scholarships. The scheme was started in 1999, he explained.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra mentioned that many structures, including religious structures such as temple, mosque and church have come on land belonging to the Mysore Paper Mills Ltd town in Bhadravati. But no place has been identified for construction of a police station, he said.

In a reply to B K Sangameshwar of Congress, Jnanendra advised the member to talk to the managing Director of the MPM Ltd to find out a place for construction of a police station.
