Sullia: Gram panchayat penalises offender for throwing garbage into river

Sullia, Mar 11: Ajjavar gram panchayat administration, after gathering details of the people involved with disposing garbage into the river, which is the source of drinking water, imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on them.

It was noticed that since sometime, various waste items including poultry waste were being thrown into River Payasvini. The panchayat had therefore installed CCTV cameras by the roadside next to the river. The panchayat came to know that the Indian Chicken Centre in Sullia had thrown this waste into the river. Thereafter, a complaint about this centre was filed with Sullia police station. When the personnel of the station summoned and grilled the owner of the chicken centre, he confessed to the wrongdoing.

The offender executed a bond pledging not to repeat such wrongful acts henceforth, it is learnt. The gram panchayat said it has imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000 on the chicken centre.
