Kolar, Mar 11: Of the four friends, three who visited a pond for fishing, drowned after the raft on which they were seated overturned all of a sudden. The incident happened in Neralekere in Bangarpet taluk in Kolar district on Thursday March 10.

The deceased were Naveen (32), Mohan (28), and Rajendra (32) from different villages in Bangarpet taluk.

Four friends who were travelling to Bengaluru for work aborted the travel plan as their train got stranded in a station near Bangarpet for an unusually long time due to technical problems. They planned to spend the holiday together and partied near a pond in Neralekere village in the afternoon. They got seated in a raft and went round the pond. When they were trying to catch fish, the raft turned turtle and the trio drowned in the pond. Their other friend, Shivaraj, was away to fetch food for them and therefore his life was saved.

It is said that before going to the pond, they had consumed liquor.
