Kundapur, Mar 11: NSS wing and students of government PU college of town visited solid waste management unit of Kundapur town municipality.

Students viewed the functioning of scientific segregation of waste that is collected from the city and converting it into resource in the huge unit.

Chief officer of town municipality Gopalkrishna Shetty gave information to the students and said, “Around 13 to 15 tonnes of waste of city limits of Kundapur is being brought to this facility and they are segregated with the help of machines. Around four tonnes of wet waste is also received in the unit every day. It is also systematically segregated and converted into manure and sold to agriculturists. Specially the waste of chicken is collected and converted into high quality manure in special units.”

President of town municipality said that students should be aware of the way the waste is managed so that it becomes easy to make Kundapur a beautiful town.

NSS officer of the college Udaya Madiwala said, “Today 130 NSS students and 150 students of the college have took part in this visit. This visit becomes very vital as it gives a knowledge to the students of the way the waste is collected and handled.”

Prakashchandra Shetty, Physical education director of the college, said, “Waste is scientifically segregated here and it does not give any foul smell. We can see the smell of manure here.”

Vice president of town municipality Sandeep Kharvi, nominated member Pushpa Shet, former president of authority Vikas Hegde, environment engineer of town municipality Guruprasad Shetty, revenue inspector Jyoti, health inspector Raghavendra Nayak, Ganesh Kumar Jannadi and lecturers of PU college were present.
