Bengaluru, Mar 11: Constructing a Satellite Town Ring Road from Devanahalli, near the Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), to Mysuru is under discussion with the Union Government, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Friday, March 11.

Speaking at the Bengaluru 2040 Summit organised by the leading English daily, Deccan Herald, he said work on laying the peripheral ring road to reduce traffic congestion in the city will be started shortly.

Peripheral ring road from Hebbal en route to BIAL and Mysore Road is also being taken up, he said pointing out that satellite town ring road is proposed as part of the continuation of the project.

The Chief Minister said the State Government is taking steps to provide good roads, drainage system and also developing 12 high density corridors, which will provide seamless traffic. As part of the plans to improve the facilities and traffic congestion, a traffic plan is also being prepared, he said.

He said the government has allocated Rs 1,500 crore to ensure easy flow of rainwater by constructing Rajakaluves this year.

A responsible civic society is the life of Bengaluru, he said and underscored the need for a strong civil society which is capable of providing solution and cooperate with the government, he said.

The Chief Minister felt the city lacked a clear and workable plan for solving the problems of roads, water supply and other basic infrastructure facilities, which must be rectified.

Pointing out that Bengaluru has been recognised as the IT/BT capital of India, Bommai said the City is gradually developing to become the economic capital.

“We need to put our heads and minds together to find solutions to the problems ailing the city and plan for its future growth instead of merely discussing its problems,’’ he said and sought public-private participation and cooperation with the government.
