Mangaluru: Interward Cricket Tourney held at St Joseph the Worker Church, Neermarga

Mangaluru, Mar 11: Sports is one of life’s most appealing stairways to immortality. It is all about life at its resplendent best, all about beauty, all about everything that turns our stultifyingly mundane work-a day life into something rich with meaning and purpose.

ICYM -Neermarga Unit for the 2nd Time meticulously organized the tournament at Neermarga church premises and Rajeshwar School campus recently.

The propitious occasion commenced by imploring for the benisons of the Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient God Almighty through a prayer song.

Fr Anil Canute D Mello, parish priest, Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, director of ICYM Mangalore Diocese, Ravi Saldanha, vice president, parish pastoral council, Prakash Pereira, secretary, Sunil and Sundeep Misquith -ICYM Animators, Sr Rufina, superior of Holy Cross Convent, Sapna Gonsalves-vice president, ICYM Central Council, Vinitha D'Souza -Amcho Yuvak Representative, Lester Saldanha- vice president and Melvita Vas- Cultural and Sports Secretary, Neermarga Unit declared the Cricket Tournament open by Cutting the Ribbon.

Fr Ashwin in his address said, “As in the previous years, this year also the association organized the cricket tournament to provide quality social and cricketing facilities for Parishioners and to embrace values of integrity, working together, to inspire and innovate”.  As many as 13 mens teams and 9 women teams participated in the tournament.

The men’s final match was played between Holy family Ward and Lourdes Ward. The winning team was Holy Family Ward. In the women’s final match played between St Joseph and Lourdes Ward, St Joseph ward emerged to be victors . Player of the Series award was given to the outstanding players Roshan and Fevita Pinto and The spectacular performances by Rajesh, Fevita and Joyce earned them best batsman and best bowler awards.

Avinash, Coltan, Clevan and Robin officiated the Match . Anil and Vinod were the best commentators.

At the Valedictory Function, Fr Anil D Mello, parish priest in his presidential Address reiterated “Each new day is a new beginning -to learn more about ourselves, to care more about others, to accomplish more than we thought we could and be more than we were before. Secondly, whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand through hard work and dedication i.e., participation is important”.

Aveen and Rovin compered the Inaugural and Valedictory Function respectively.
