Madikeri: Two persons accused of raping, murdering woman arrested

Madikeri, Mar 12: Virajpet police have arrested two persons who have been accused of raping and murdering a woman.

The deceased was Chimmi, a married lady residing in a line house of a plantation in V Badaga village in the district. Workers, Panjari Yeravara Suresh (30) and Pani Yeravara Subramani (38) are the arrested accused.

Chimmi was attacked with a scythe on March 2. Without responding to treatment at KR Hospital Mysuru, Chimmi had breathed her last on March 7 at the hospital without responding to treatment.

Kuliya and Chimmi, a couple who worked in the plantation, lived in a line house. After the two returned home after work on March 2, Kuliya left to meet his daughter living in B Shettigeri village. These two accused who were drunk, came to know that Chimmi was alone at her house. They gate-crashed into her house, and tried to rape her. Chimmi shouted for help at which the accused grew nervous, picked a sickle lying nearby and escaped after hitting her with it. Her husband and daughter who came to know of the incident, took her to Virajpet hospital and then to K R Hospital Mysuru for advanced treatment.

Suresh, first accused who lived in the house of his elder sister in Basavanahalli, and Subramani, living in a line house in Badaga village, were taken into custody and questioned at which the two confessed to their crime.
