Kaup, Mar 14: A Maruti Alto car moving towards Udupi from the direction of Mangaluru brushed against a lorry that was parked by the side of the highway at Yermal near Padubidri in the taluk on Sunday March 13 afternoon. A woman in the car was killed in the accident.

The victim was Bhavani (58), wife of retired sub-inspector of Udupi district armed forces.

It is said that the recklessness of the lorry driver who had parked the car in a haphazard manner contributed to the gravity of the accident. The lorry driver had stopped his vehicle to have lunch. The left side of the car brushed against the parked lorry before moving ahead and falling by its side. Bhavani, who suffered serious injuries to her head, was brought out with the help of the people and taken to Udupi hospital. However, by then she had breathed her last.

Bhavani's son, Taranath (35), who was driving the car, too suffered injuries. He has been hospitalized. A case has been registered in Padubidri police station. Bhavani has left behind her husband and three sons.
