Chikkamagaluru: Couple perish in head-on collision between car, motorbike

Chikkamagaluru, Mar 14: After a car and a motorbike got involved in a head-on collision near Birur town in the district, the bike rider died on the spot. His wife, who was riding the pillion, suffered serious injuries, and breathed her last sometime later in a hospital.

The deceased were Anand (35) and Laxmi (33) from Karehalli village near Birur. The couple was going towards AIT circle from the direction of Hanumanthappa Circle when the accident happened. The car was going towards Chikkamagaluru from Birur.

Due to the impact of the accident, the car was badly mangled. The bike plunged into roadside pit where it caught fire and reduced to ashes. A case was registered in the traffic police station in the town.

Anand and his wife were going to Dharmasthala along with another couple, who were their friends, in separate motorbikes. In the early hours on Sunday, when the bike was moving on the embankment of Dantaramakki lake in the town, a car which approached the spot from the direction of Hanumantappa Circle at considerable speed, rammed into the motorbike.

Anand died on the spot while Laxmi, who suffered grave injuries, did not survive even though she was treated in a hospital. The car had four students from a college in the city. They suffered minor injuries.
