Udupi: Hijab petitioner students say HC verdict against expectations, blame govt

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Mar 15: “We had lots of hopes on the high court (HC). We had confidence in the system. There is an opportunity to wear Hijab in Islam. All Muslim women can cover their head and chest acccording to our relegion. The high court has pronounced a verdict against us,” said the group of city's Government Women's PU college girl students who had approached the high court on the Hijab controversy.

Alia Asadi, one of the protesters said, “We were confident of getting a favourable verdict. We will not enter the classroom without Hijab. We will fight legally. There is mention in the Quran to cover our body. If there was no necessity to wear Hijab, we would not have covered our heads. We would not have fought for it if Hijab was not important. We want both Hijab and education."

“The Hijab issue has been given a communal colour for political mileage. It was blown out of proportion with ulterior motives by politicians. We are facing issues with our education. The principal should have allowed us to wear Hijab. This is not preventing Hijab but our education. Both religion and education are important for us. We want both.

"We will not compromise. We will continue our fight. We approached the High court to allow us to wear Hijab. However, the verdict was against our expectations. The uniform rule of the government is mentioned in the verdict itself," said Alia.

The students also went ahead and alleged, “Pressure was exerted on the court through the interim order of the government. The state government has interfered in the verdict of HC and used pressure tactics. That is why the verdict is given against wearing Hijab.”

Almas, one more protesting student said, “Dr B R Ambedkar formed our constitution. If he was alive today, he would have shed tears. He would have cried at the present situation of the constitution. Discussions are on with regard to our next move. We are having consultations with our lawyers. We have not taken any decision as of now. We are very much hurt by the verdict of HC.”

The protesters collectively said, “We will take the fight further for our right to wear Hijab. We will fight for our constitutional right. We will follow our Holy Quran. There is no need for us to follow the orders of the government. We should be allowed to write examinations wearing Hijab. For the past two months we have been preparing for examinations from home itself.”

Poor kids, pity them, they are brainwashed, kids youll are referring to Ambedkar saying he might have cried with this decision, below is what Dr Ambedkar told about islam.....,Dr Ambedkar long ago in his book "Pakistan or Partition of India " wrote .., _. The brotherhood of Islam is not the universal brotherhood of man. It is brotherhood of Muslims for Muslims only. There is a fraternity, but its benefit is confined to those within that corporation. For those who are outside the corporation, there is nothing but contempt and enmity.

Simple peice of advice.. rather than making this a issue move forward and think how to educate girl child and make them self sufficient. We live in a land governed by Law. The law clearly states that institutional right precedes individual right...! So come on move on if you have problems admit kids who want to wear hijab in institutions that allows them to wear Simple...! People dragging this matter will only marginalize your own community. Please stop it.

Are these the same people when going to court said that they will bow down to any verdict given by the Judiciary? Now they are using the terms "not in our favor" and all. Also diverting the topic claiming constitutional right. Court dint say don't wear Hijab, their verdict is limited to uniform rules inside the campuses, not outside. You can wear hijab, naqaab, burqa, tharpal or shaamiyaana anything. In the school follow uniform, if not vhnage the institute to one that allow you to wear whatevr u want to wear.

I feel pity on those girls who would be probably from lower middle class families are being utilized by some and the ultimate result is they would not be getting their education continued. Girls from rich families have no restrictions, roam around without wearing the head scarf etc and nobody has courage to question their parents. Religious restrictions are there only on poor and middle class semi educated families..... This is the truth which people are not ready to accept.

Are they moving nude in the public? No. They got clothing to hide their modesty. What and why are they cribbing for? They have the cheek to say that there is mention in the Quran. Issue section 2(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 and see why they will not budge to the rulings. It should be swift and any consequences thereof should be borne by them ...fair and square.

I think these students are stretching too much. They can go to supreme court with an appeal. Will they agree if Supreme court also upholds the HC decision or sing the same tune? Do they have faith in Judiciary or think what they believe is only correct.

Well said Sir. Too much religious obsession mixed with some politics is not good at this early stage of life. They have to dedicate themselves excelling in studies than getting distracted with all these things. They are spoiling their mind and education, which is exploited by others.
