A legal fight started to get maintenance for the father lasted for about three years. The Senior Citizens’ Tribunal where Tunga had filed a petition, has completed hearing the petition of Tunga and ordered Tunga's three children to pay him maintenance of Rs 3,000 per month each by credit to his savings bank account with bank.

The order said that Srinivas Tunga's petition has been upheld and for the full life term of the petitioner, his children, S Prashanth, S Prasad and S Prathima, have to pay a total sum of Rs 9,000 per month by credit to Tunga’s bank account towards his daily expenses, medical expenses and other expenses.

The order also said that failing compliance, suitable steps will be taken against the children under section 5(8) of the act, Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag said in a press release.

Obligation to support aged parents is written into Indian law. Probably these three children were waiting for the old man to konk out so they could divide up the spoils!!!! That is the way of the world of ungrateful children.

The children being well settled should not have forsaken the father. I hope they abide by the ruling. Nowadays, very risky to depend on children.

Hats off Dr. Shanbhag. Ashamed of the three son's attitude. How much their father might have sacrificed for them to get well-to-do living hood. It took three years for final justice.

India’s strength was strong family value systems .... Rally around in times of need .. .. The west was criticised for parents left to fend for themselves..in old age .. Old age homes .. loneliness.. individually self interested ..etc etc It is to be noted of all loneliness is a curse .. happening also in japan and of course western nations .. Now we are sadly aping .... Today all over India and not a stray case ...

Wonderful job of bringing justice. But we don't know the circumstance that led the children to do this also. There are many parents who do not spend on their children's lives, education, in their youth and then, in old age, they seek the money of their children under such Acts. That should be cared for.

Few parents may be doing it deliberately. But many parents are unable to meet their children's expectations considering expenses vs. parents' income.

From this instance and many others, I hope people stop having many children like they would in the past. Instead, have only one or two, as per economic ability and raise them well to be responsible young adults. Then such instances will not occur.
