Belagavi, Mar 20: The consumers who are already under financial distress due to the increase in fuel and edible oil prices, will be getting one more shock soon. There is every chance that the price of Nandini milk will rise in the near future.
Giving this information, Balachandra Jarkiholi, president of Karnataka Milk Federation said, “Milk federations of 14 districts are exerting pressure on us to increase the price of milk. We need to do it invariably. We will give the hiked amount to the farmers themselves."
“We have conveyed the matter to chief minister Bommai and he has said that a decision will be taken after looking into its pros and cons."
“During summer, the yield of milk from cows is less. So if the price is increased it will benefit the farmers. In Belagavi, the price of cow milk was Rs 23 per liter. We have increased it to Rs 25. Similarly, the price of buffalo milk was Rs 36 per liter and it has been increased by Rs 38.
“Our milk price is the cheapest in the whole of India. If the price is increased in such a manner that it will not burden the consumers, then it will be beneficial to both farmers and consumers. Let us see what decision CM Bommai takes.”
