Kundapur: Kedoor residents protest against irregularities in gram panchayat

Kundapur, Mar 23: "As the government officials have failed to respond to the grievances like government land encroachment, rent dues of gram panchayath owned buildings and other problems even after submission of memorandum to the deputy commissioner on October 15, 2021 during his visit to programme at Kedooru, this symbolic protest is organised," said retired education officer K Seetharam Shetty.

He was speaking in a symbolic protest organised by Kedooru villagers and representatives in front of Kundapur Taluk Panchayath on Wednesday, March 23.


The tahsildar who received the memorandum assured to take action within two days. Though the issue was raised in a gram sabha on November 11, the meeting was postponed due to some confusions.On February 21, a memorandum was submitted to ZP CEO with an urge to take action with a warning that a peaceful protest will be organised on March 23. Responding to this, the CEO had directed the taluk panchayat EO to take action. As nothing happened as per assurance the protest was organized, he said.

"The officials are not respecting the decision taken by the gram panchayat. No action has been initiated against those who have not paid rent to gram panchayat for the past three years. The gram panchayat action plan has not been prepared for the past three years. The Government High School land has been encroached upon. Without bringing to notice of the gram panchayath president, notice of the general body meeting was served. There are irregularities under the NREGA programme. There are a lot of irregularities going on in gram panchayath. Action has not been taken against the official who failed to attend gram sabha meetings. Public is deprived of government facilities. The officials are not attending the office on time," the protesters alleged demanding action after holding a probe.

Kedooru gram panchayath president Shrimathi Shetty, vice-president Malathi, Bujanga Shetty, Gubbi, Prashanth Shetty, Ullas Hegde, Vijay Shetty, Prakash, Sharada, Dharamaraj Mudaliyar, Arun Kumar Shetty and others were present.

The taluk panchayat EO Shwetha N after receiving the memorandum assured of taking action within one month in this regard.
