Mangaluru: Yellow alert - Parts of DK receive good rainfall with thunder

Mangaluru, Mar 24: The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert in the coastal belt of Karnataka. Several parts of Dakshina Kannada district experienced good rains on the evening of Wednesday March 23 coupled with thunder. Udupi and Manipal apart from some other areas of Udupi district were among the places to have received rains. The department has continued with the yellow alert as it expects rainfall with thunder in the coast on Thursday too.

Heavy rains were reported from different parts of Sullia and Beltangady taluks. Some rain was reported from some areas within Bantwal and Puttur taluks. These areas enjoyed respite from hot climate due to the rainfall. The district in general had cloudy weather on Wednesday with a hot and humid climate. The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was degree Celsius.

Lightning inflicts losses

After lightning struck the house of Jagannath Poojary alias Santosh Maistry in Tenka Yekkar village, heavy losses were inflicted to the house. %he entire switchboard of the motor caught fire and wiring in the house was burnt down and walls too were burnt. Smoke filled the entire house and all the electronic and electrical equipment were damaged. Two nearby houses too suffered damages.
