Bengaluru, Mar 22: Janata Dal (S) Deputy Leader in the Assembly and Bidar South MLA Bandeppa Kashempur has demanded that Kamathana and Mannaekhelli grama panchayats to be upgraded as town panchayats.

Speaking in the Assembly on Friday, March 25, the JD(S) leader pointed out that six grama panchayats in the Bidar South Assembly constituency were eligible to be upgraded as town panchayats. Apart from Kamathana and Mannaekhelli, the grama panchayats of Mannalli, Nirna, Bagadal, Bemalakheda had all the eligibility for becoming town panchayts, he said.

Kashempur said the State Government has already admitted that the Kamathana in Bidar taluk and Mannaekhelli in Chitaguppa taluk fulfill the criteria of becoming town panchayats, and urged the government to take immediate steps for meeting the demand.

The JD(S) member said Bidar South constituency does not have even a single town panchayat or a taluk headquarters, which is injustice to the people.

Urban Development Minister M T B Nagaraju said Kamathana and Mannaekhelli grama panchayats meet the criteria. However, the Bidar Deputy Commissioner has not sent any proposals so far and promised to accept the demand as soon as official proposals for upgrading not just two but grama panchayats in Bidar South constituency as town panchayats.
