Udupi, Mar 25: Madhurya Shetty is a national level athlete from a rural background. Now she has an opportunity to participate in an international sports-meet in France, which will be held from May 14 to 22 this year.
She needs Rs 3 lakh to participate in the sports event. But though she is interested and eligible to go, her family is not able to afford that huge amount. Her parents and teachers are requesting the philanthropists to extend their wholehearted support to realize her dream.
Madhurya Shetty is the daughter of Krishnamurthy Shetty and Poornima Shetty, residing in Hiliyana near Brahmavara. Her father is a daily wager. Currently, she is pursuing 10th standard in Government High School, Ajjarkadu, and staying in the sports hostel here. She is very active in sports activities and has achieved remarkably so far.
Recently she secured first place in the discus throw trials session held in Bhuvaneshwar on March 20 and 21. It was organized by the School Games Federation Of India, Odisha. Here she has been selected for an international sports meet, 19th International School Federation Zym Nyashiyad, which will be held at Normandy in France from May 14 to 22.
She has participated in zonal level, taluk level, district level competitions and bagged many prizes.
Madhurya developed her interest in shot put and discus throw in sixth standard. She won a gold medal in the state-level amateur athletics meet held in the year 2018. She won in state level shot put and discus throw competition in 2019 and was selected for the national level sports held in Punjab.
Sugandhi, physical education teacher, Government Primary School Hiliyana, Synthia Crasta, Government High school, Ajjarkad are encouraging her to grow in sports.
B H Lingaraju, headmaster of Government High school, Ajjarkad, said, “She is a sports champ and moreover, she is a rural talent. Now she needs at least Rs Rs 2.50 lac to Rs 3 lac to manage her travel expenses." He has requested the public and sports lovers to encourage her by donating.
The parents and teachers too have requested for contributions from willing donors and philanthropists.
