Kundapur, Mar 26: Blue waves hit the seashore at Kody on the night of Thursday March 24 night. The people who are thrilled at this phenomenon and are curious to have a glimpse of the changing colours of the sea, are rushing there to feast their eyes with this rare phenomenon.
A similar incident had happened in Kody, Gangolli and Beejady regions of the sea in 2020. The fact that green waves had been lashing at the shore at Madi in Gangolli had also left the people curious.
Blue waves have been seen this time after a gap of two years on the stretch of the sea between Kody and Beejady. The fact that the waves in coastal Karnataka are making an appearance in different hues not only has created an interest and curiosity but also given rise to demand to undertake scientific study about this phenomenon. After 2020, blue, green and gray waves were seen by the locals.
The people had seen a gray stretch which appeared like a road in the sea. People want to know whether this is happening because of the huge waste that gets into the sea or whether there are other reasons, and that is why there is demand for scientific study. The locals agreed that while they are enamoured by the different colours the sea acquires, these strange changes also give rise to a feeling of apprehension in their minds.
Ganesh, assistant director in fisheries department, Mangaluru, explained that the sea acquires colours based on the density of nutrition that has melted in water. Magnesium, calcium, tin, potassium, chromium, selenium, and other things get mixed in the water and because of organic pumping which happens there, these colours are sighted. Sighting of the colours in a clean atmosphere is known as sea nitrification and it does not pose danger to anyone, he added.
