Udupi, Mar 26: "Joint Committee of Center of Indian Trade Unions (JCITU) Udupi, Insurance Employees have called for a protest for two days, on March 28 and 29 here against the central government anti-labour policies," said K Shankar, convener of JCITU.

He was speaking at the press meet held at press club here on Saturday March 26. He said, “The prices on daily commodities are increasing day-by-day. The union government should have control over the prices of petrol, diesel, LPG and daily necessities. Central tax should be reduced. Rs 10,000 should be transferred to poor families not falling under the income tax brackets. JCITU also demands to stop privatisation of government companies. Ensure security to unorganized workers and compensate them, especially those facing difficult times.

"There are many unorganized daily wage workers striving hard to get the benefits. Beedi workers do not have provident fund accounts. The government is least bothered about protecting the interests of the general public," he said. 

On March 28, protest will be held at Ajjarkad and on March 29, protest will be held in front of DC office, Manipal followed a protest march from Tiger Circle.

Prabhakar B Kundar, Insurance Policy Union, Balakrishna Shetty, district vice president, CITU, K Ramesh, AIBEA, Sanjiva Sheregar, AITUC and Ravindra, BEFI were present.
