Bengaluru, Mar 27: The State Government will take steps to get Deemed University status to Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat (KCP) from being an autonomous institution and also establish Art Galleries in 6 different places in the State, promised Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Inaugurating the 19th edition of the popular Chitrasante event organised by KCP, Bommai said granting Deemed University status to the Parishat was a long standing demand and promised to ensure that all art related institutions will be brought under the single umbrella to provide a new dimension to art in the State.

The Chief Minister declared the event open by signing the portrait of Mother India kept on display.

Warmly appreciating the service rendered by KCP under the leadership of its President Dr BL Shankar, the Chief Minister said Chitrasante was a novel and laudable initiative that has helped several budding artists to exhibit their talent. He applauded Dr Shankar for throwing the doors of KCP open to general public instead of confining it only to the elite and the affluent sections.

Artists from different parts of the State and from other States as well as those from other countries are exhibiting their art work in the Chitrasante from Windsor Manor till Shivananda Circle near the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat.

Higher Education Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, Cooperation Minister ST Somashekar, Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad and former Minister Rani Satish were among the dignitaries who attended the event.

The Chief Minister purchased and savoured a Mango Ice Cream Candy Bar from a boy, who was selling it near the event, and said he loved to eat the candy bar during his childhood.
