Mangaluru, Mar 28: A few of friends who visited Surathkal beach had fun. However, their fun was short lived as when the friends were returning on two motorbikes, one of the bikes lost control and rammed into the protective wall. As a result, the pillion rider fell into the river and died on the spot .

The incident happened at around 3 AM on Sunday, March 27 when the students were returning to Mangaluru from Surathkal beach.

Tony Thomas, a native of Kerala, whose parents are said to be in the UAE, lost his life because of head injury while bike rider, Akash, fell near the pillars, newly laid for the purpose of construction of another bridge at Kulur and suffered serious injuries. The other motorbike carrying Lalkrishna and Appu Mathew which was close to the first bike, also fell to the road. Both suffered serious injuries and were admitted into hospital.

It is suspected that either because of sleepiness in the morning hours or because of excessive speed, the riders would have riden their bikes over the humps without noticing them as a result of which they would have lost control over the bikes. Immediately after the accident, people in other vehicles rushed to help the people in trouble apart from passing information to the police.
