Bantwal, Mar 28: The members of the ruling party unanimously urged to avoid revision of tax during the current difficult period of Covid and postpone it for a later time. The meeting was chaired by Mohammed Sharif, president of the municipal council on Monday, March 28.

Vasu Poojary said that the salaries are being raised from gram panchayat levels to MLA. “The salary of town panchayat members and council members should also be raised by Rs 10, 000 each. They should also be paid a pension and provided life insurance. A letter to this effect should be written to the government,” he urged the president.

“How can we ask for a salary raise when we are asking to avoid revision of taxes? We will have more respect if you demand an increase of funds for our wards,” said member Hariprasad.

“As many as 25 CC cameras have been installed in the congested areas in the council limits to nab those who throw trash. Two more cameras will be installed soon,” said the president. Member Aboobacker Siddik asked why the malfunctioning cameras were installed.

Members said that trash is being thrown at the camera spots itself. “They should be fined severely,” urged the members. “People belonging to gram panchayat limits are throwing trash in municipal council limits. Criminal cases should be registered against them,” urged the members.

President Mohammed Sharif assured of action. Council vice president Jacinta and chief executive Lena Britto were present.
