Post cool down, participants gathered in Decathlon for exciting session on 'Running a Marathon?' by Akshy, who is an accomplished marathoner having completed 5 marathons in various cities of India. He has participated in marathons in Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Jaipur. The session began with him sharing his running journey, how he started running to become fit and slowly running became a part of his lifestyle. He said, “A marathon is a beautiful metaphor for life”. Some of the tips he shared were
1. The effort involved in running a marathon is tremendous. Every runner must prepare for a few months, working on various aspects of running, strength, diet and gradually develop mental strength to complete 42 kms.
2. More than finishing the marathon, the journey of preparing for the marathon is the reward. The runner needs to be consistent in their effort for a few months to become a successful marathon runner.

After the talk, the enthusiastic audience which consisted of experienced runners and newbies had lot of questions on diet, running form, breathing during running etc. All of this was answered by Akshy.

Second session of the day was on 'Strengthening & Conditioning for Runners' conducted by Karthik of Zuese Fitness. Karthik is an accomplished 'Strength and Conditioning' coach who has worked with a lot of sportspersons. He said, strength training involves set of physical exercises that are designed to improve the strength and endurance of the athlete. It provides athlete functional benefits and an increased muscle mass, improved joint function, and reduces the potential of injury. Good strength and conditioning exercises help runners to train better and improve runners’ performance.

Feedback session from the new runners was also held. The Run clinic session was concluded by a vote of thanks given by Vasudev Kamath, who shared his personal journey of how running has benefited him over the last 5 years.

All’s well that ends well. MRC’s Run Clinic was a huge success, and we are sure that runners will reap benefits from the tips shared by Akshy and the Zuese fitness instructors. Decathlon Mangalore was a key partner as they cheered the participants on during the run, provided them with refreshments and space to enjoy the sessions.
