Bantwal, Apr 3: If people's representatives take initiative and the public supports them, any work can be done neatly. Such an example is the road which is built with the fullest cooperation of the villagers. The road has a footpath on both the sides for pedestrians to walk, equipped with solar lights and a drainage system on both sides of the road. All in all, the road looks as if it is in the midst of a big city, but it is situated in a village area.
This road is built in Sajipamooda village of the taluk and the same will be inaugurated on April 3 by rural development minister K S Eshwarappa. The road which is built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore has a length of 1.5 km from Sajipamooda to Mittamajalu temple.
The road is made of concrete and the villagers have donated the land to the government without any objection. Attractive interlocks are fixed on footpaths on either side of the road. The solar lights that are fixed throughout the length of the road, get lighted automatically as darkness sets in. Maintenance of the road is looked after by the citizens welfare committee of Sajipamooda as per the details given by Vivek Shetty who is the convener.
Pits are already dug on both sides of the road in order to plant trees. It is decided to plant the saplings during Monsoon. The road development which initially was slated to be done at a cost of Rs 15 lac is turned into a model road with the help of MLA Rajesh Naik at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
