New Delhi, Apr 9: Amidst all the chaos that are prevailing in the state in which a particular minority community is targeted, high command of BJP has warned chief minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai to concentrate more on governance than raking up controversial issues.
It is learnt that high command is not in a mood to hold early assembly election. On the contrary a total restructuring of state BJP team is in the process.
Bommai is said to have been instructed in no uncertain terms by the high command that the onus should be on the implementation of projects that are promised to the public with emphasis on infrastructure development.
It is also learnt that the high command has given nod for the cabinet expansion and restructure and promised an enthusiastic Bommai that it will happen soon. The finalization of names to be included and removed from the cabinet will be done during the visit of Arun Singh, general secretary in charge of Karnataka and J P Nadda, chief of national BJP. Meanwhile, state executive meeting of the party will be also held on April 16 and 17.
According to close party sources Bommai is asked to give more attention on projects that are related to farmers like irrigation, fertilizer etc so that their confidence can be won before the assembly elections.
The high command is said to be not interested to hold early assembly elections at all. On the contrary, they want to reshuffle the party set up in the state. According to an MP from Karnataka, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi wants to win the elections based on the performance of the party and not on Hindutva issues. The party high command is of the opinion that though issues like Hijab and Halal will help in converting Hindu votes in certain areas, it might not be enough to bring the party back to power in the state.
The senior BJP leaders of Karnataka feel that assembly elections have to be held right now as the party had a clear advantage over rivals Congress and JD (S) due to Hijab, Halal and numerous other Hindutva-based issues. The leaders of the state want the elections to be held along with that of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, which will go to polls in later half of the year.
In his defence, over the religious chaos that are created in Karnataka, CM Bommai is learnt to have highlighted the unruly behaviour of his party MLAs and ministers who give statements as they wish without following any guideline of the party. So it is becoming difficult for him to manage his own people. Bommai also conveyed to the high command that he has warned fringe Hindu groups not to take law onto their hands and announce any controversial matter that will hurt the sentiments of minorities.
It is learnt a party MP supported Bommai when he expressed his helplessness on the self-damaging behaviour of MLAs, minister and other office bearers of the party. He also highlighted the ‘Economic Jihad’ call of C T Ravi, who keeps on instigating the majority community against the minorities.
PM Modi will be visiting the state number of times in near future in order to inaugurate the projects and also lay foundation stones for new projects.
Bommai is given the task of focusing on the public of northern Karnataka more where the party has a stronghold but there is feud between leaders of the party and the cadre. Rumours are also rife that some BJP MLAs of northern Karnataka will switch loyalties and join other parties.
High command of BJP is also said to have been appraised of the loss of hold of the party after the departure of former CM Yediyurappa. The direct bearing of this is said to be seen in local bodies and other elections that were held recently.
In addition, it is also learnt that the high command has asked the party not to give much importance to the feud between former CM Siddaramaiah and KPCC president D K Shivakumar and mind the party’s progress through good governance.
Now all eyes are on the state executive meeting that will be held on April 16 and 17 after which a clear picture of party high command will emerge with regards to the future steps of Karnataka BJP politics.
