Bantwal: Scouts and Guides Undertake Bicycle Campaign for Eco Conservation

Bantwal, Mar 3: Over 70 scouts and guides participated in a bicycle campaign from Puttur town to Kadeshivalya, near here, on Wednesday March 2, to create awareness about the need to sustain the eco-environment and biodiversity.
 
Participants in the campaign organized by Bharat Scouts and Guides ranged from six-year-olds child to seventy-year-olds.  The campaign began from Puttur town, passing through Boluwaru–Padil–Krishna Nagar–Sediyapu–Perne and reached Kadeshivalya covering about 15 km. 

A cultural show on people’s awareness was staged by the students of Ramakrishna High School at Perlapu town and Kadeshivalya temple premises.  The bicycle marathon covered Perlapu–Gadiyara–Perne–Sediyapu– Krishna Nagar-APMC route and reached Mahalingeshwar temple.
 
Bharat Scouts and Guides of Puttur town has been organizing this campaign since the past nine years. 
 
This year’s campaign was very effective as handbills were distributed to the people along the route, information beamed on loudspeakers, talks held on environmental conservation, and cultural programmes adding flavour to the campaign. 

Senior citizen Govind Bhat participated in the campaign on his tricycle along with the cyclists.  Vaishnavi, a Class V student, pedaled her cycle all along the route. The students who were fasting owing to Maha Shivaratri Utsav also enthusiastically participated in the campaign. 

Puttur TP chief executive officer Y Shivaramayya inaugurated the campaign that was organized under the leadership of Bharat Scouts and Guides president K Ganapati Nayak, and executive president H Sridar Rai at Mahalingeshwar temple premises.
 
Nayak presided over the programme. Vice president Vidhya R Gowri, and nodal officer Gurunath Bagewadi were also present.
 
H Sridar welcomed the gathering.  Dr Shrisha Kumar delivered the introductory address.  Teacher Sunitha compered the programme.
 
Teacher Sripati Bhat, Harinakshi, Vedavathi, Vanitha and Rajkumar led the campaign along with the cyclists.  Gangadhar, Rajesh Sharma, Kabir Manava, teacher Uday Shakar, and Roopa Rao strived for the success of the campaign.
 
The bicycle campaign reached Laxminarasimha temple, Kadeshivalya on Wednesday afternoon and returned to Mahalingeshwar temple, Puttur on Wednesday evening.  Certificates were issued to the participants.
