Mangaluru: Restaurant board comes down on parked cars, no injuries

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 15: The board of a restaurant came down on a couple of cars parked in the parking area, late in the evening on Friday July 15.

The board from 4th floor of the building came down crashing and destroyed the windshields of two cars. The incident took place at around 7pm. No lives were lost or injuries were reported.

However, it is alleged that the staff of the restaurant has been insensitive and is not cooperating. The owners of the cars said that restaurant staff asked them to claim insurance instead of paying for repairs.

Insurance or no insurance, this is a case of criminal negligence. Is there a government in place in our country? And look at the audacity of the restaurant owners to ask the aggrieved car owners to go and claim the damage from their insurance companies! The police on their own ought to file prima facie case and add this statement of theirs as an additional crime. What is the police for? Just to organize the motorcade of ministers and MLAs ?

Thank God no persons were injured .Whatever the insurance agrees or not that is important for the moment.Rest clear with owner .They are responsible complete for this mishap.Boycott when not agree. Board should have hanged and made secure.

Looks like the cars were parked on the footpath. At that particular strech you often see vehicles parked on the footpath and hence obstructing pedestrians in using the footpath.

Are you trying to justify that, board fallen down is okay? Assume your argument is right, but if no vehicles parked there at that particular moment, someone waking there got injured, what justification you will provide? Will you say they are not supposed to walk on the footpath?

Peter, Mangalore it is the mentality of people like you want vehicles to be parked on footpaths. This in turn prohibits pedestrians from using the footpath and risking their lives while using the carriageway. In many places in Mangalore in front of supermarkets, bars& hotels, jewelry boutiques the carriageway and footpath is of the same level and motorists inturn use the footpath for parking purpose. The police give a blind eye mostly.

Dylan mangalore ,but you should agree that either parking scooters on footpath or cars there is both wrong .One has to park elsewhere than footpath.when any mishap happens ,?owner of shop has to take responsibility or clear with insurance.People have to go down from footpath to street which is still dangerous ,.That again come back on who parked there.

Yes insurance can be claimed but 25k per car has to be paid by the restaurant owners to cover the expenses which is not financed under insurance, high premium and no claim bonus next year.
