Mangalore/Udupi, Apr 1: Cricket fans in the coastal districts are going all out to support Dhoni's Men in Blue ahead of the all-important World Cup finals clash against the Sri Lankans.

Mangaloreans showed their wholehearted enthusiasm in a way that is quintessentially Mangalorean - by sculpting images of the World Cup on the sand with an apt message to go with it. The sand sculpture was designed by the members of the Lahiri group, who are known for coming up with such ideas on occasions like these.

If it was sand sculpture in Mangalore, a short distance away in Udupi cricket fans chose a unique way to root for their team. A roller-skating show was held at the Rath Beedhi, here on Friday April 1 by members of Upadhya Skating Rink, Ambalpady, accompanied by a chorus of best wishes.

Swami Laxmivarateerta of Shiroor Mutt flagged-off the show. He announced on the occasion that if India wins the World Cup on Saturday, 10,000 laddus will be distributed to the devotees to celebrate the victory. Also, a sum of Rs 2 lac will be set aside by Shiroor Mutt for social welfare activities. In case Sri Lanka wins, Rs 1 lac will be set aside for the same tasks, announced Swami Laxmivarateerta.

District Nagarika Samiti chief secretary Nithyanand Olakadu, Shiroor Mutt diwan Latavya Acharya, Jayasri Krishnaraj Malpe, Eshwar Shetty Chitpady and others were present.

    Dear Daiji:

There is no if but sure and certain the Indian team will win the World Cup. India is the best team and the best team will surely win. It is not because of temple Swami, or Churches or Mosques and no Manthra but the ability and hard work of our Indian team. All supertitious are meaningless and even the educated people believe it.
