Bengaluru, Aug 11: When a commoner visits a government office, most of the times he or she will be sent back as there is no staff.
At one end lac of youth of Karnataka are unemployed. On the other 32% of positions are lying vacant in government departments like agriculture, health, education, revenue, rural development and home. The direct impact of this shortage falls on development and quality of administration.
According to the official information provided by the government, more than 2.52 lac positions are lying vacant in various departments. For the year 2021-22, out of the sanctioned 7.68 lac positions, only 5.16 lac of them are filled.
In the agricultural department, 6,000 posts, animal husbandry 9,000, inner administration 28,000, rural development 9,000, revenue 10,000, primary education 58,000, higher education 12,000 and 34,000 posts are vacant in the health department.
If all the posts are filled, the government has to shell out an additional amount of Rs 8,000 to Rs 9,000 crore from the state exchequer for salaries. For the same reason, the ruling BJP government if following delay tactics as the assembly elections are round the corner, it is said.
In addition, scams in recruitment have hit all time high during the present government’s rule. This is also delaying the recruitment process. At least two years are required to fill any position. There are cases where recruitment has not taken place for six years. It is also opined that election of code of conduct is also hampering the recruitment process.
