Shimoga : Fire Destroys 1,200 SSLC Answer Sheets

Fire destroys 1,200 SSLC answer sheets

Shimoga, Apr 14 : Anxiety grips over 1,200 SSLC students and their parents as a fire has destroyed their Hindi examination answer scripts here on Thursday evening.

Officials indicated that the SSLC Examination Board might conduct re-examination at the centres from where the answerscripts had arrived. As a result, more than 1,200 students may have to appear for re-examination.

About a dozen bundles each containing 100 answer scripts were destroyed when sparks from welding work set off a fire at Basaveshwar Government School here. The scripts were from examination centres in Mysore district. The Hindi paper examination was conducted on April 18. They had been stored in the Basaveshwar School, for evaluation on April 18. It is one of the six evaluation centres in the town.

Welding work was under way on a window in the room where the answer scripts were stored.

According to Block Education Officer T N Kamalakar, more than 12 bundles of answer scripts have been destroyed. The remaining answer scripts will be shifted elsewhere. The controller of examinations is expected to arrive here and a departmental inquiry will be held.

Investigations will throw light on the reason behind the mishap, said Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

As summer vacation has begun and the students might have travelled away from the towns where they appeared for the examinations, informing them of the re-examination and reassembling all of them in time might pose a problem.

Also many of the students are likely to have joined coaching classes to prepare for further education, which will now be disrupted. Whether the fire and ensuing need for re-examination will delay the announcement of results of the whole examination remains to be seen. In that case, the meticulous planning of the students and the parents at this crucial juncture of their education would be seriously upset.

This is total negligence of concerned Education officer of the district and the School authorities. They should ensure the safety of Answer papers before storing there. They should be punished. Because the incident should not be occured in future and instead of giving punishment of re-exam.to the students, the department may take the marks of preparatory exam.with grace marks of the innocent children. Please dont play with life of STUDENTS.

this is total negligence of the government ... here we understand how irresponsible they are.. and students are now punished just because of their irrespnsibilty and negligence.. this is very veyr and totally unfair!!.. the irresponsible people should pay fine for this.. jus two days over after the exams and the government is so bad.. all corrupt..some one else makes the mistake and some 1 else has to pay for it?? does this make any justice.. i suggest there should'nt be any re-exams but they should solve the problem by doing something but it shudnt stress the students by any chance.. very corrupt administration of the government.. really ashamed..

There should'nt be any re-exam conducted because there is no fault of students. What i feel is grade the students based on previous class examination marks only for this hindi subject instead of re-writing the exam, but again it would be the problem incase the student didnot perform well in the previous class examination for this hindi subject.

the students of mysore have to write re-exam. because a good student scoring 100 marks in the previous exam cannot be passed giving 35 marks without any exam as it is unfair. so the department has to conduct re-exam.

It shows the carelessness of the Education Department. Along with the answer sheets the future of the 1200 students also burnt. The idea of re-examnitaion will not work because many students might have left for different places. Instead of that the Education Department may think and take some other easy steps to slove this problem.

What a funny mess...! who wants to write re-exam and how? In many cases and it is not unusual and is expected that many students would forget all hardworking studies. There should be no re-exam all students should be given marks based on their previous numbers with some grace marks(All students pass in Hindi). The people who are responsible for this act of negligence should be punished. In future make sure the answer paper must be in locker room with tight security till the paper get currection.

This is really nonsense by the authorities. This shows how our authorities are responsible. Next think it is happened where our CM is belongs to. This all shows that how much government is capable to do the right job. Students should NOT be punished for this and they must be graded based on their school performance [Class Test] and they must given additional 25% more to that.
If the government is forcing to take exam then they must pay all students Rs.1000/= for their irresponsible act. What our education minister is telling????????
