Gadag, Aug 31: At a time when communal clashes are occurring in the state frequently, Kalasapura, which is at a distance of 8 km from Gadag city, stands as a role model for others.
The Hindus and Muslims here have been getting together and celebrating the Ganesh Festival for the past eight years.
The members of Anjuman – A – Islam and other muslims along with the elders of the village have begun collection of donation for the Ganesh festival.
The festival is held for 11 days. On Wednesday, the day of Chauthi both communities are involved in Pooja. Pooja is offered twice a day to the idol. On the last day, before immersing the idol, a procession is taken throughout the village.
People of the nearby villages and Gadag city visit Kalasapur during Ganesha Festival to see the unique bonding of Hindus and Muslims. Kalasapura Ganesha is called the ‘Komu Sauharda Ganesha’ (communal harmony Ganesha). So far no clashes have occurred in the village between the two communities. If certain minor issues crop up, they are resolved by the elders of both the communities.
Hindus also partake in Muslim festivals like Ramzan and Eid. The villagers of Kalasapur say that they would never allow any issues like Hijab, Ganesh Dangal or other communal violence to take place in their village.
