Mangalore, Apr 19: Mangalore City Police Commissionerate which has been provided with 10 new GPS-fitted Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles and 30 new motorcycles for patrol under its limits 3 months ago, witnessed considerable control in ordinary theft cases, and received good response from the public, said commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh on Tuesday April 19.

For all the 10 PCR vehicles, kits including extra items like reflector gloves, electric batons, fire extinguisher equipment, rain coats to shield heavy monsoon and rope among others have been added now to counter any crime or accident scene.

Order for procurement of first set of cameras has been already made, and they will be delivered next week. The commisionerate will also procure Rs 30 lac worth traffic equipment such as signage and reflector boards. Zebra crossing will be repainted everywhere in the city and MCC will call for tender for the same work, Singh added.

Pointing out the decrease in the crime figures, he detailed comparing to 2009 figures that crime figure has decreased by 25 %. In all 902 cases have been registered in 2009, 869 cases in 2010, which has come down to 826 in the corresponding year, he said.

He proposed a new traffic control system, wherein volunteers from various organizations will be deputed on traffic duty to help the traffic police. Interested can get themselves registered in respective police stations on or before April 26, he added. The volunteers will be provided uniforms. The system has been working out good in Bangalore, he noted.

To a query by media persons, he said that children's special police cell is operating in all the police stations under the commisionerate.

It’s a good move by Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh to keep up the law and order of Traffic movement in the City.
I am just wondering what will be the outcome of this move, when the appointed Traffic police have totally failed in keeping up the law and basic Traffic regulations Such as:-
    1. Rash driving of Private buses
    2. Blow Horns by private buses
    3. No line discipline by Auto Rikshaws and Two wheelers.
    4. Proper and Separate parking arrangements for 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers.
    5. Buses stopping on the middle of the road to pickup and off passengers.
    6. No lay byes for the buses on the highways or any roads.
    7. Drivers are not aware of, whose is priority at the junctions and circles or anywhere necessary.
    8. Using full lights even when there are vehicles on the opposite direction.
    9. Private buses are in such a hurry that they do not even give enough of time for the passengers to get down or get in the buses.
    10. Private bus driver do not respect other road users, they just want to overtake all other vehicles even when it is not safe to overtake. They use abusive language.
These are only few basic problems which can be easily implemented / sorted out. But, our traffic dept. Is only after some silly issues like:-
Who is riding two wheeler without helmet
Who is talking on the mobile phone while driving
Who does not have emission test certificate ( no matter if vehicle having lot of emission )

The worst menace is by Private bus operators. They belong to Moral Police and real police hesitates to take action on them.

I think it is nothing to do with district incharge minister. These facilities are mandatory based on the population in a particular district. We must remember that Mangalore is costal area where there is chance of terrorist entry so these facilities are very much need. These facilities they must provide through out costal area to protect the country.

About traffic safety and rules need to be introduced to all school children in the elementary level, so at least next generation will fallow the rules.

One suggestion after all most of our Police Personals is not treated properly by the government and it is better to honor great, brave, and sincere Police Personals by public in their financial need. Can we do it in INDIA and to avoid corruption ……………….????????

Dear Police Commissioner thank you very much for your efforts to bring Mangalore to Law and Order City. Sir,all these equipments are great but the operator of these machines must be sincere in His operation. Please kindly stop the menace of Private Bus Drivers. Specially Drivers of Karkala-Moodbidri Route. It is becoming a life threat to drive a small vehicle inside city. As you suggested We can volunteer to submit the licence plate number of these reckless buses and you can appoint undercover honest Policeman to monitor these rogue bus drivers. Their blowing horn has become a nightmare to us Senior Citizens. Our hearing power is weak and these buses make us suffer more. Again please control speed and horn of the buses. Thanks to you.

25% decrease in crime figures is awesome.
I am sure Mangalore has the lowest crime rate in Karnataka, but I have a question.
Out of 869 cases reported in 2010 how many have been solved?
