Udupi, Aug 5: Advanced Urodynamic laboratory inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on Sunday, August 4. Urodynamic studies are important to know how well the bladder and urinary sphincter and pelvic flow works, Hence it is used to assess the detrusor ( Bladder muscle) function, urinary sphincter and pelvic floor activity. There studies done with special equipment’s are of great help to find the cause of problems with patients with urine leakage, urinary urgency. Urodynamic study helps in guiding the management and the follow up of Parkinson’s patients, with voiding dysfunction male with low Urine Tract Symptom for avoiding dysfunction in spinal injuries ,in females with Urinary incontinence, in children with Posterior urethral valve and Secondary VUR. Urodynamic study helps in planning treatment strategies in patients with varying spectrum of voiding dysfunction.

The Urodynamic lab was inaugurated by H K Patil, former minister government of Karnataka and member of Legislative Assembly Gadag. Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE, Manipal, presided over the program and Dr Vinod Bhat, vice chancellor, MAHE Manipal and Dr Poornima Baliga B Pro vice Chancellor MAHE, Manipal were the guest of honour of the program. Dr Sharath K Rao, dean KMC and Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Arun Chawla, Professor and Head of the department of Urology and Renal Transplantation, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal were present.

Speaking on the occasion, H K Patil said, “India is proud of Manipal, as MAHE is the only university which is ranked within 500 worldwide. People of North Karnataka calling Pai as Rupai. Because he did great work in education, healthcare and finance. Manipal group is developed as a great institution, as it got great visionary leader, able administrator and hard workers. Manipal is known for its excellence in healthcare and quality treatment. Urodynamic lab is one more feather to Kasturba Hospital’s crown’s feather, to serve the general public. I wish all the best and expect many more such facilities to come in future to serve the community at large.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr H Vinod Bhat said, “There are lot of improvements happened in Gadag – Betageri region in the form of education, healthcare and finance because of Patil family. Urodynamic lab is the one of the modern weapon in healthcare galaxy. “

Speaking on the occasion, Dr H S Ballal said, “Urology & Renal transplant department in Kasturba Hospital is one of the premium department in the country. As Urology Department of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal has state of the art equipment’s, students prefer Manipal as priority for their education. Kidney is also one of the organs effected by lifestyle disease, which can be diagnosed by the help of urodynamic lab. Our aim is to bring MAHE as a top 200 ranked institutions worldwide. “

Dr Poornima Baliga B, pro vice chancellor MAHE, Manipal, released SOP for Urodynamic. Dr Sharath K Rao, dean KMC, welcomed the gathering, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Manipal, rendered the vote of thanks.
