Udupi, Nov 14: Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake lit the lamp here and celebrated the 130th birth anniversary of the first prime minister of the country, architect of modern India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
KPCC chief secretary, M A Gafoor said that Pandit Nehru led the country for 17 long years and laid a strong foundation for the country. “He led the freedom struggle of Mahathma Gandhi together with sacrifices and hard work for the country. The hungry citizens in the country had no shelter, industries, ports or transport facilities during independence. Nehru along with scientists and industrialists established industries, transport facilities, health centers, revolution in education, five year plans with science and technology.”
District president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor recollected the contribution of Nehru. District chief secretary B Narasimha Murthy compered the programme.
Congress leaders and activists were present.
