Kundapur: Biker chased, murdered in broad daylight - Personal enmity suspected

Kundapur, Dec 17: In an inhumane act, a bike rider was chased by assailants in broad daylight on the Hemmady - Kollur state highway near the connecting road of Tallur Neralakatte at Kalkamba near Jadi on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 17. The incident occurred in the afternoon and has come to light only in the evening.

Babu Shetty (55), son of Narasimha Shetty, a resident of Jormakki near Neralakatte Valtur is the person who was brutally murdered by the assailants.

A passer-by noticed the bloodied body of a person on the evening of Tuesday and he reported the matter to Hattiangadi gram panchayat president Rajiv Shetty. The police were informed immediately.

It is said that the deceased Babu Shetty had left in his Hero Honda bike at 12 noon on Tuesday saying that he is going to Kundapur from Jormakki. However, his blood-soaked body is found near Kalkamba. By looking at the spot of the incident, it seems that Babu Shetty took the mud road that connects to Hattiangadi from Kollur-Hemmady road in order to avoid the attackers who were chasing him. The murderers might have attacked him on the mud road itself as per the police. He has received severe wounds on his neck, head, chest and abdomen region and it is confirmed that he has been murdered.

It is said that Babu Shetty was earning his livelihood through a 407 pickup. However, he was also doing money laundering in which he had some enemies. In addition, he had property dispute with his sister also as per the information given by brothers of deceased Babu Shetty. This information was shared by SP Nisha James. But the motive behind the murder is not clearly known.

Babu Shetty is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. Udupi SP Nisha James has visited the spot and is conducting spot inspection.

Canine squad, fingerprint and forensic experts are also at the site of the incident. DySP Hariram Shankar, circle inspector Manjappa, Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty have also arrived on the spot of the murder.

A case in this regard is registered in the Kandlur police station.
