Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 5: In response to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people across the city switched off their lights at sharp 9 pm and came on to their balconies and out of their doors with torches and lighted candles.
The gesture was a symbolic effort to showcase unity in the country's battle against coronavirus, and a show of solidarity with the poor who are suffering the most due to shortage or inaccessibility of essential commodities.
The Prime Minister in his address to the nation on Friday April 3 had urged people to show unity and solidarity by lighting earthen lamps, candles, torches or mobile flashlights from 9 pm for nine minutes. "On April 5, at 9 pm, turn off all the lights in your homes, stand at your doors or in your balconies, and light candles or diyas, torches or mobile flashlights for 9 minutes," Modi had said.adding this is to challenge the darkness caused by the coronavirus.

He had said that the gesture was to also awaken the "superpower of 130 crore Indians".
In response, scores of households across the city switched off their lights and came on their balconies with candles and earthen lamps for nine minutes. It seemed like Diwali was here once again. In some areas, people even burst crackers, even though PM Modi had urged not to cross the threshold of one's house.
In some neighbourhoods, people got together to arrange earthen lamps (diyas) in the shape of India to express unity. Temples like Sri Kateel Kshetra lit up a thousand candles.
In Udupi, MLA Raghupati Bhat came out of his house along with his family members and expressed solidarity by lighting earthen lamps and switching off lights. MP Shobha Karandlaje too switched off the lights of her house and lit a candle.
In Doddanagudde, the locals adorned the road by placing earthen lamps on both sides. Aneesh Shettigar of Kukkikatte arranged earthen lamps to form Modi's name.
Udupi's famous Sri Krishna Math lit up with scores of diyas. Temples in Kaup too were adorned with earthen lamps.
The gesture comes days after PM Modi called upon people to clap and ring bells to join hands in the country's fight against the coronavirus pandemic and to express appreciation towards those in healthcare and essential services who have been working selflessly. In some parts however, people had come on to the streets in almost a celebratory mood unmindful of social distancing.

Lighting candles, taali and ghanta does not help, supporting the medical profession ensuring enough supplies of PPE and ventilators is the need of the hour not drama and tamasha like last night,!

as per me, IDEA is to have some movement, some positivity some positive news in this lockdown period to get away the worries, boredom and to get some confidence and to show others that you are not alone in this... that's it, people, it's very simple...
Don't Try to Find Logic in this, Also One should Keep the Hate away once we all get away from this you should resume the Hate... Hold it tight for Time Being ...

Mon, Apr 06 2020Well said Bangera, " outsiders" so you consider people from neighboring states as outsiders? do you remember the pledge we took in our schools and colleges " all Indians are my brothers and sisters" I am certain you you dont remember or you have never taken the pledge. If they are outsiders even you are an outsider in Mumbai. I have been away for my family for months and when I came back to India I was asked to quarantine in Delhi which I happily accepted to make sure I am socially responsible, if people in Delhi thought I was an outsider they wouldn't have allowed me to stay here for a month. I am an Indian, be it Kasargod or Kashmir, I have the right to go anywhere the same way you went to Mumbai.

Mon, Apr 06 2020However, despite responding to Modi’s ‘lights off’ call, many people said they still wanted the government to answer key questions about India’s strategy to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus. Among these:
1. How the government is planning to ramp up the production of personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks for doctors and hospital staff who face the threat of getting infected.
2. When and how will India increase testing so that the scale and reach of the spread of the virus is known?
3. How prepared is India with hospital beds, isolation wards and ventilators to deal with an increase in number of patients?
4. What are the steps the government is taking to mitigate the economic loss to migrant workers, land less labourers and daily wage earners?
5. What steps beyond the financial package announced on March 26 is the government going to take to deal with the massive losses to the economy that have, and will, occur due to the lockdown?

Solidarity will always mean psychological support. Anyways leave aside such elements and let us pray to God to protect the World from Covid19 and things can get back to normal.

Todays call of modi originally came from an ancient religion based belief and slowly India is now becoming non democratic state by giving significance to unscientific traditions .
Finally someone told that when Donal Trump ask for malaria medicine from India then Indian counterpart question Trump weather he need christain malaria drug or Muslim malaria drug. We in India already classified carona into thabligi or ect..........

If you are frustrated against Modi than that's ur problem ur life is only to get frustrated and embarrassed .Also regarding ur remarks made by that MLA many political leaders make some or other comments .Even initial UT Khader made mockery but yesterday he also holded torch . I am not having enmity towards any party, has what u think in our mind. All political parties do the same.
Let it be any prominent person of any party, nobody will come and take care of my family and help me. I only have to take care of everyone.
All parties are there to do money and not bothered about the ppl well being. By implementing all kinds of taxes on ppl, which we will come to know soon once this pandemic stops.

Don't be too smart also you were the one who used the word foolishness by saying that did Corono go , When you yourself didn't understand the concept or you may be the frustrated looking at the crowd yesterday .You are correct whichever government comes we have to pax tay no doubt in that we only should earn bread and butter .Mean time when Government is doing something good like this .It's our duty that we should stand for it as a form of solidarity this is what happened yesterday people of every religion supported . Its a form of symbol that we people are today showing our solidarity and unity against the deadly diseases that today entire world is facing the disasters Corona .Even can’t you see that Indian Population is so large compared to other country but still the statistics against quarantined people is less(which we all will pray that it will be less more) against other country . This is because the effective measures of the Lock down taken by our Dynamic PM Modi sir . Once we are sorted out by the crisis we shall help other countries no harm in that .
