Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (MS/HB)

Udupi, Aug 22: Family members of a young woman who died suddenly following a brief illness has filed a complaint in the city police station alleging medical negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Raksha (26).

It is said that Raksha was ill for two to three days. She was taken to Mission hospital for treatment on the morning of August 21. After treatment, she was brought home.

However, she did not respond to the call of the family members at around 9 am. She was immediately rushed to Mission hospital first and then to Adarsha hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared her as brought dead.

Raksha's family members have alleged negligence on the part of the doctors who attended on her at Mission hospital as reason for her sudden death.

"Raksha lost her consciousness after she was given an injection by the doctor. However, when we went back to the hospital and asked about the injection, the hospital authorities said that the doctor concerned was not available. She was confirmed dead in Adarsha hospital," the family members said.

A complaint in this regard has been registered at the city police station based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased.

Raksha's husband Shivaprasad, who is also the vice-president of local BJP Yuva Morcha, his family members and Congress leader Ramesh Kanchan have urged suitable enquiry to be done in this case.

Sources said that Raksha also tested positive for coronavirus. However, rapid antigen test turned out to be negative, it is said. Following her death, there was chaos at the mortuary regarding the final rites.

Locals and family members of the deceased arrived at the Ajjarakad district mortuary and are demanding justice for Raksha.

"The hospital authorities are trying to hide facts by saying that Raksha tested corona-positive," they claimed. They demanded investigation into the matter and also action against the doctor concerned who administered the injection to the deceased.

Raksha, a resident of Indiranagar is survived by husband and two young children.

Speaking to daijiworld, Dr Sushil Jathana, director of Mission hospital said, "Raksha was brought to the hospital at around 6 am on August 21 and she left at 6.40 am. She visited us for headache and stomach pain. Before taking her inside we checked her medical history thoroughly.

"Initially we gave er Pantodac injection for the pain. We also gave her some medicines to take while recuperating at home.
On the same day, at around 9.30 am again she was brought to the hospital, but she was unconscious. So our senior doctors asked for some tests. But the the patient's party refused and took her to some other hospital.

"We too want to know what happened. we are waiting for the post-mortem report. We are ready to cooperate with the officials for any enquiry in this regard," Dr Jathana said.

Pantodac is NOT for pain ,it is for acidity and reflux. It is a proton pump inhibitor. At the same time ordinarily it won't kill a person. The cause of mortality could be different, maybe related to the fever or a wrong medicine in place of Pantodac. Only investigation will reveal.

Monti Dotor mangalore, very sad.here we must accept what they said and am sure something had gone wrong. They finished the examination medication from the patient within a time of 40 minutes like in a fast track .Did they ever examed her properly ?are 40minutes enough to do exams ,medication ,check her,and send back?Like in fish market. They are supposed to observe her after injection ,check BP ,and send only everything is ok.One who as she came sick shouldnt send back.Heartfelt sympathy to family.Even her post martum too wouldnt reveal everything because one hand wash the other.Hope but truth comes out.May her soul rest in peacesome unjustice is done to her.

When a patients is brought to the hospital in a serious condition, the drug 'Adrenaline' is used in critical conditions as a last ditch effort to save the patient. Some people survive, some do not. Anyway let the inquiry decide.
    RIP.
