Karkala: Villagers protest, demand repair of Dr B R Ambedkar Road in Kauduru

Karkala, Feb 5: Villagers staged a strong protest on February 4, demanding the repair of Dr B R Ambedkar Road, which connects Shedigudde and Karikumeri Pathaavuge in Ranganapalke, Kauduru.

Shubodh Rao, president of Karkala Block Congress, participated in the protest and criticized the authorities for neglecting the road's deteriorating condition, which has caused severe inconvenience to the local community. He emphasized that such negligence was unprecedented in Karkala taluk.

Local Panchayat members, including those from Bailoor gram panchayat, expressed their frustration over the lack of action. They held discussions with the panchayat development officer on-site, urging him to provide details about the road’s status. They also instructed the preparation of a memorandum regarding the MLA fund and reached out to MLC Manjunath Bhandary to bring the issue to his attention. In response, Bhandari assured the villagers that the necessary repairs would be undertaken.

Congress leader Uday Kumar Shetty was also contacted, and the protestors received assurances regarding the resolution of their concerns. The villagers voiced their determination to continue their agitation until the issue was addressed.

Several residents, including Antony Miranda, Priya Y L G, Radha, Jenevieve D'Souza, and Tressy Miranda, expressed their anger, warning that if no action was taken, they would stage a protest in front of the Bailoor gram panchayat office.

The protest, led by Antony Miranda, saw the participation of Bailoor Rural Congress president Uday Shetty, as well as the presidents of Bylooru, Kanjaaru, Yerlapadi, and Kauduru Block. Around 150 to 200 villagers, including Sampada Udupi member Priya Quadras, joined the demonstration.
