Puttur, Nov 3: In the accident which occurred on the evening of Monday November 2 near Darbe bypass on Mani-Mysuru highway in the city, two pedestrians, a girl student and a woman, lost their lives.

The victims of the accident have been identified as Swathi (7), daughter of Gopinath and Kavitha couple living at Padil in the city, and Geetha (44). Swathi succumbed to her injuries on the spot while Geetha's death occurred at a hospital in Mangaluru. Swathi's elder sister, Ananya (9), who suffered serious injuries, has been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.

A car being driven towards Sullia from Mangaluru by a person named Thomas hit the three who were walking by the roadside near the Darbe bypass. The car came to a stop after hitting a car belonging to Ubaid from Savanur. It is said that recklessness on the part of the car driver caused the accident. Both the cars were damaged extensively.

Gopinath, employed in a hall near Darbe bypass junction, stays in a room there with family. Geetha, a local, is also employed in the same hall. She was accompanying Swathi and Ananya to her home when tragedy struck.

Swathi was a second standard student of Mai De Deus School here while Ananya is a third standard student. A case relating to the accident was registered at the city traffic police station.
