Mangalore: Ambulance Meets with Accident – Patient Dies

Mangalore, May 10: A truck belonging to a widely known logistics company hit an ambulance that was taking a patient to the hospital, on Monday May 9 afternoon at Yedapadavu near here. The patient died as a result on the spot, while five others including the ambulance driver sustained serious injuries. All the injured were hospitalized.

Suresh, son of Anni Poojary (65), a native of Beluvai Daregudde and working abroad, had come home because of his father’s ill health. He had arranged for taking Anni Poojary to hospital for treatment relating to his heart-related ailment. At the road bend near Yedapadavu Garodi, a truck hit the ambulance. Ambulance driver, Ayub  (20), nurse, Ayesha (35), Sandesh, son of Anni Poojary, Sadashiv and Mahesh, two other inmates of the ambulance, suffered injuries in the accident.

Traffic on the road was affected because of the accident for some time, before the policemen of Bajpe station came on the scene and cleared the road. The ambulance was badly mangled due to the impact of the collision. It is learnt the condition of Ayesha is critical.

Bajpe police have registered a case and begun investigation.

    As many people in this forum always jump into conclusion blaming each and every bad thing happening in Karanataka specially in Mangalore definitely accident happened becuase of bjp govt and yediurappa .

    Hi,
    While it was sad to read about the accident, I fully agree with the views of some of the readers that Omni is no way a vehicle to be called an Ambulance.
    Besides not taking sides as to who was right and who was wrong, feel the ambulance drivers also need to be educated as to how to drive etc.
    This as many a times I have seen ambulance drivers driving recklessly thinking the light on top and the siren gives them right over the roads.
    Instead they should realise that by their speed not only are they putting everyone's life at risk, but then making the patient too so uncomfortable by the bumps knowing the status of our roads too.

    How can a 34 bhp unstable tin can, be called an ambulance? The Indian government , out of its own selfish interest has levied 150% surcharge on much better and bigger built Ford and Chev ambulances, that are so popular abroad, as indians, our lives are worthless to the 'servants of the people' they are more interested in protecting pre liberalisation devils such as maruti suzuki, one of the worst car manufacturers in the world....

    The problem is most of these drivers are illiterate and probably don't know that they have to make way for Ambulance, there are many ignorant drivers lurking around who block the way of Ambulances and don't realize that how important each second is!!!

    Mangalore is getting infamous for ghastly accidents every other day due to substandard infrastructure, old illmantained vehicles and fearless drivers!!

    Number of innocent lives are lost for no mistake of theirs!

    its no use of blaming truck driver bcoz this road only being narrow its very hard to cross the vehichles on this road..........this road just name sake national highway..this road not even broader than state highway..........its the responsibility of the govt to build safer highways........and yes drivers must concious especially truck bus and tripper drivers.........they are very reckless.........there is no hard punishment in India for such cases...

    Everybody knows how unreliable the Omni can be. Compounding this is the light weight of the vehicle. Even with a pebble on the road it would topple. The government must ensure ambulances are steady and strong vehicles, given the fact that it is for transporting sick and trauma patients. If it was only to take someone from x to y, then we could use the autorickshaw also. It is hightime the government invests in human life and health care.

    Which is the widely known logistics company, cant you name the company, whose driver was so careless that he rammed into an ambulance. This is just to make sure that next time we spot that company vehicle we know what to expect.
