Bantwal: Don’t Listen to Allegations of Conversion - Bishop

Bantwal, May 10: “Religious and social welfare organizations are essentially working for social development,” said Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore diocese.
He was speaking after inaugurating the new building block of St Anthony’s Aided Higher Primary and High School, Mother of God English Medium Higher Primary School, Mogarnad, near here, on Monday May 9.
“Christian missionaries have responded to the societal needs such as health and education of people, with their sacrifices and human virtues,” added the Bishop.
He urged the people not to listen to the allegations of conversion by a few groups.
MLA Ramanat Rai, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unveiled the plaque.
He said that literacy can lead to an oppression-free society.
Former MLA K Padmanabha Kottari lauded the contributions of the Christian community in the health and education sphere in the country.
Mangalore provincial Ursuline Franciscan Superior General Sr Lenita D’Souza, Dolphy Prashant D’Souza, and Annapoorneshwari temple managing trustee Chandrahas Shetty Bolantoor conveyed their best wishes.
Modankap parish priest Fr Roque D’Souza, zilla panchayat member Chandraprakash Shetty, taluk panchayat member Pushpavati, Ida Suresh, Laveena D’Souza, donors Lilly Rodrigues and Alphonse Pasanna, and Mother of God School head teacher Jayabharati were present on the dais.
Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, secretary, Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore, felicitated Bishop D’SOuza on completing 15 years as Bishop of Mangalore.
The school’s correspondent Fr Leo Lobo honoured the donors on the same occasion.
Mogarnad parish council vice-president Anthony D’Souza introduced the guests. St Anthony’s Higher Primary School head teacher Sr Inet D’Souza welcomed the gathering. St Anthony’s High School acting head master R K Sharma proposed the vote of thanks. Noel Lobo and Vinod compered the programme.
Cultural programmes were staged by the students after the stage programme.
