SSLC Pass Percentage in State Improves - Girls Outshine Boys

Bangalore, May 12 (PTI): Overall pass percentage in SSLC examination in Karnataka this year recorded a ten per cent jump to 73.90 even as all students in as many as 44 schools failed, according to results declared today. In all, 1,468 schools across the state secured 100% result.

The overall pass percentage is a significant jump from last year's figure of 63.56. Officials said making question banks available to students, filling up vacant teachers' posts and holding of subject-related competitions in schools contributed to the increase in pass percentage.

Announcing the results at a press conference here, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said girls with rural girls taking the lead outshone boys in overall pass percentage, boasting a figure of 78.81 to the 69.57 per cent of boys.

The pass percentage for freshers was 80.79, while that of repeaters and private candidates was 24.10 and 11.64 respectively, he said.

Among the districts, Bangalore Rural topped the pass percentage list followed by Chikkodi and Mandya, while Bidar was in the last place, he said. While, 1,468 schools all over the state secured 100 % result, four high schools got 0 % result.

Three candidates scored the highest of 620 marks (out of the total 625), he added.

As many as 898 candidates secured 100 per cent in the first language, and 2,634 in maths.

As many as 180 students failed to get even one mark in the first language and 171 students scored zero in maths, he said.

    babus are trying hard to push up the pass percentage. the exam patter has been diluted, so has been the syllabus.with colleges being announced every other day and grants almost every day, they need students to fill in the seats. chikkodi getting the II place is the most ridiculous.
