Mangaluru: St Anns PU College organises session on 'Developing Soft Skills in Students'

Mangaluru, Nov 14: The St Anns Pre University College in association with Commerce Department, organised a session on the topic “Developing Soft Skills in Students” for all the II year Commerce students on Monday, November 14.

Ashish Joseph Carvalho was the resource person for the session. He holds a Master’s Degree in Commerce. He has worked as a lecturer at Rosario College of Management Studies, Mangaluru. Currently he is pursuing his Bachelor of Education from St Aloysius Institute of Education, Mangaluru.

The session began with the resource person, Ashish Joseph Carvalho briefing the students on the meaning of soft skills with relevant examples. He further explored the soft skills required in a commerce student and the ways through which they can be developed. He explained the different modes of communication and its importance. He also gave an explanation on how a student can develop communication skills. He elaborated on the skill of Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Professionalism. Activities such as team building, effective communication, gestures and more were conducted by the resource person for the students. These activities were mainly included to bring an understanding on the need of soft skills among the students. In addition, the resource person explained the importance of body language and manners to be practiced in daily life. He provided inputs on being cooperative in every situation. Overall, the resource person shared his knowledge and experience during the session which will be a source of inspiration for the students to build their future career.

The resource person also conducted a “Brand Quiz” for the commerce students. All the students were equally divided into groups. There were 8 quiz rounds. Identify the Brand Logo, Solve the Brand Puzzle, Identify the Brand Tagline, Choose the correct Brand Logo, Identify the Brand Ambassador, Act and find out the Brand, Brand Full Form and Brand Advertisement were the different rounds that were included in the “Brand Quiz”. Ashish Joseph Carvalho, the resource person was the Quiz Master.

All the commerce students of St Anns Pre University College participated enthusiastically during the session as well as during the “Brand Quiz.” Prizes were given to the winners. The students asked questions based on the topics discussed and the “Brand Quiz” that was conducted by the resource person. The session concluded with the students of St Anns Pre University College, Mangaluru expressing their overall views on the session during the feedback.
