Mysuru, Jan 7: State government did not provide a home to a blind artiste couple of the city, though CM Bommai himself had himself promised the same to them.

Kumar (38) and Sudhamani (37) are moving from one bus stand to the other for the last two years to find a shelter for themselves in the city. Both are visually impaired and they play the harmonium and the tabla in public places for a living.

The couple met Chief Minister Bommai at the Janata Darshan programme and appealed to him for a shelter. Bommai promised that his government will do the needful. But it seems their file has not moved and the district administration officials are not bothered. Now the couple is forced to sleep in bus stands.

Kumar, a native of Channarayapatna, is visually impaired since birth. He has studied till SSLC in a school for the blind. Afterwards his family did not support him. So he left home and learnt playing the harmonium and the tabla. He also sang songs on the radio.

In 2021, Kumar listened to Sudhamani, a native of Piriyapatana taluk, singing in a bus stand. They became friends and got married. Sudhamani is also visually impaired since birth. However, they have not got a house to stay in though they are married for two years now.

Kumar says that they have not got any positive response from the government with regards to providing for a shelter to them. They only get monthly pension that is given for differently abled people but it is not sufficient he says. Kumar has an ambition of forming his own team of singers and musicians and to organise an orchestra for the public.
