Udupi: Take precautions to avoid thefts in Konkan rail - Shobha Karandlanje to officials

Udupi, Jan 12: “Theft cases have increased in Konkan Railway limits that pass through coastal districts. The Railway Ministry should take the matter seriously and take precautions,” said Union Minister of State for agriculture and farmer’s welfare Shobha Karandlaje.

She was presiding over a district development co-ordination committee meeting and committee in-charge meet at the V S Acharya auditorium.

“Railway officials should immediately take precautions to prevent thefts on the trains. CCTV cameras should be installed in the railway bogies and lockers should be provided to the passengers. CCTV cameras should be installed in all the railway stations. I will discussing this with the railway ministry officials at Delhi also,” she said.

“The railway ministry, municipal council and PWD should jointly conduct surveys of approach roads to the railway stations and they should provide good roads by working in close coordination with one another,” Shobha Karandlaje said.

She urged officials to take up necessary works and precautions at black spots on national highways passing through the district. “Signals should be installed at Katpadi, Udupi and Padubidri junctions to prevent accidents and to control the traffic. The Karavali – Malpe road works and Parkala road work should be started soon. Legal issues if any should be sorted out soon,” she told the national highway officials.

The union minister called for creating awareness regarding Pradhan Mantri Awas scheme that pertains to construction of houses. “Reach the goal and ensure that loans for constructing houses are available easily,” she said.

Shobha Karandlaje also urged officials to provide good quality saplings to farmers from the department of horticulture to help them multiply their income. “The fisheries department should increase the production units,” she said.

“75 lakes are being developed under the Kere Sanjeevini project. Work has been completed at 15 places and is in progress at 60 other places. 963 foot bridges are planned to be built in villages, which will be completed by this year end,” said district panchayat chief executive officer Prasanna H.

MLAs Haladi Srinivas Shetty, K Raghupathi Bhat, Lalaji Mendon, Sukumar Shetty, Sumitra R Nayak, CMC chief, DC Kurma Rao M, SP Hakay Akshay Machindra, IAS officer under training Yathish and coordinating officers from various departments were present.
