Prominent Artist Devi Prasad Dies in Delhi


New Delhi, Jun 2 (PTI) A prominent artist, who was taught painting by masters including Nandalal Bose, died in south Delhi after prolonged illness, his family said.

Devi Prasad (89), who was taught painting by Bose, Benode Bihari Mukherjee and Ram Kinkar at Shantiniketan, breathed his last at his C R Park residence last night, they said. He was ailing for some time.

Prasad, born in Debradun in 1921, joined Mahatma Gandhi's Sevagram after his graduation from Shantiniketan. He stayed in Sevagram until 1962 where he developed an art schooland edited a journal.

He was awarded the Lalit Kala Ratna award by Lalit Kala Akademi 2007.

He has published over 200 books and several articles on peace studies, child art and education and Tagore and Gandhi.
