Whoever said vegetarian food is safe should know most of the deadly pathogens like Salmonella, E. Coli, Listeria etc are also found in raw and uncleaned vegetables, which can cause food poisoning! Also, now the liberal use of pesticides has become a big issue as the vegetables are to be thoroughly washed which may not be possible in a place of mass cooking!

So many suggestions and comments. My question is to the health department. Are you doing your job? Unless you mann your responsibility areas they donot follow basic rules. Washing veg and non veg, using gloves and removing finger rings are the most important rules to follow by cooks and serving staff . Finger rings must be having hundreds of bacterias.

There is over mushrooming of medical and paramedical, pvt schools, coaching classes etc in a small city like Mangalore; many are connected to outside hospitals for practical training! These colleges just admit students in hordes based on their capacity to pay heavy fees, irrespective of the marks on the qualifying standard; it appears their intention is just to make money as most colleges manage to get 100% results!! God only knows who is controlling these colleges?? In such a case, who is bothered about hostel hygiene or food quality; they might be just cooking in bulk and giving the food without any one to supervise the hygiene of the canteen!

True as the number of colleges are increasing for the sake of earning money the quality of education and facilities are decreasing . Government must take note of this.

Definitely, I shudder to think how pass class students from vernacular medium directly admitted to tough courses like Bpharm, and the colleges churn out 100% results; which practically is impossible without doing some jhumla; just imagine the product coming out!!

Vegitables must wash thoroughly. Without pesticides nothing growing on this soil. Remaining food must be kept in refrigerator. Should see the area must be free from cockroach and rats Because rats and cockroach live most of the day time in drainage and night time they visit kitchens Take care

Food poisoning can happen with veg food as much as with the non-veg. No difference. The vegetables used can be contaminated by so many things. For example, farmers liberally use dung - including human dung - as fertilisers. The kitchen staff hardly bother cleaning the vegetables properly! The vegetables are thrown on the ground, where people walk. The kitchen staff do not wear food gloves, even though they use the same hands for lots of unmentionable things! BTW, I am vegetarian.

Eva Kirem veg or non veg, important is one who cooks the food should follow absolute hygienic conditions .Most important is when they go to toilet and coeout ,should wash hands thoroughly with soap and water. One never know who is having what .When they follow this ,is half done .Ring can also carry infection.Second is who knows do they keep samples from food in fridge? It is mandatory ,in hospitals .in case one or more fall sick samples can be sent to lab and findout what was wrong? Now it is too late.hope someone examined it the vomit or loose motions.wish all of them fast recovery. When hygiene standard in´s not followed ,best food also is useless. When they mix food from previous day in order not to throw or wasnt cooked properly ?

Only solution to avoid all these incidents is to cook food by themselves. Colleges should reduce the fees & ask students to prepare & eat food by themselves. This will avoid mass sickness of this type.

This is because of out sourced food from some irresponsible food supplier. The food suppliers premises should be checked by the health department.

Mangaluru: Over 100 students of nursing college fall ill after dinner, hospitalized.....Vegetables are sprayed chemicals , fishes are eating dead human bodies, Chickens are with bird flu, water is with high concentrate of deadly minerals, and air is high concentrate of non-oxygen gases. Education institutes want to make money and poor people/students will suffer.

One of the trajedies of India is that the 'public' cooks in India are typically with extremely low education. No sense of hygiene whatsoever. They use hands when going for the nature's calls, and then use the same hands to prepare and cook food. Do we ever find any 'public' cook in India EVER using food gloves, or is knowledgable about the ideal temperature for various food items? No. But the country is happily dreaming about a $5 TRILLION economy for the Gujju fekus.
