Mangaluru: Indiana Cancer Centre inaugurated at hospital premise in city

Mangaluru, Feb 10: On the eve of Cancer Day celebration, the Indiana Cancer Centre was inaugurated on Friday, February 10 at the Indiana Hospital here.

Addressing the gathering, chairman, Indiana Hospital & Heart Institute Dr Ali Kumble said, “Have a belief that cancer can be cured only then will the treatment succeed. In the past there was no treatment for cancer but now the disease can be cured by proper treatment. As a doctor it's our responsibility to educate the patients. Some cancer occurs due to food habits and smoking. By educating the patients we can give proper treatment.”

Oncologist Dr Ramnath Shenoy said, “We need to educate the cancer patients of the various treatments available. Every year, the number of cancer patients is increasing. In the early stage if detected cancer can be completely cured. By regularly exercising for one hour a day, incidences of cancer can be reduced. Avoiding drinking, smoking can also reduce incidences of cancer. Many people are apprehensive about taking chemotherapy because of its side effects. Once the chemotherapy is completed hair grows back to normal.”

Cancer patients were also present for an interaction in order to offer them solace and further guidance. Medical Director Dr Adhitya was present
