Following controversial Modi documentary, I-T officers conduct 'survey' at BBC Delhi, Mumbai offices

New Delhi/Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS): Income tax department officials on Tuesday conducted "survey" operations at BBC's Delhi and Mumbai offices, according to sources.

The development came just weeks after the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) released a two-part documentary titled 'India: The Modi Question' on the 2002 Gujarat riots.

According to reports, the employees of the broadcasting corporation were asked not to use their computer systems and phones, including their personal ones.

Reports quoting sources said the employees working in the afternoon shift at the BBC's Delhi office were asked to work from home, while those present in the office were asked to leave early.

In Delhi, the Income Tax officials reached the BBC office at Kasturba Gandhi Marg, said the sources.

The sources also said that the team reached there to verify documents.

Govt ‘s come and go .. Emergency was criticised heavily world over ..books written etc .. So government is criticised . .. Not country ... Country goes on but government comes and goes or gets booted out .. To expose government of the day for all wrong doings or if they have achieved good ...free press and media needed ... Godhra and subsequent riots .. killings are all documented.... Army was kept waiting in the airport for more than 24 hours even though then prime minister.. defence minister.. from NDA authorised .. viz Shri late Vajpayee and late Fernandes.. The delay of not allowing the army to takeover Ahmedabad was by the then state govt under Modi ..who stalled army at the airport leading to several hundred additional deaths and rapes etc .. So what was shown was an already well researched documentary.. Many scholars have also written ..

That was very much expected from the Indian Govt. It's another live example how the current govt. takes revenge against those who voice their views against Modi and his govt. BBC is not part of godi media to please Modi and his government. It’s a renowned unbiased channel which cannot be bought like our Indian channels. It has been airing news for over 75 years. What happened in India during the riot is known to everyone including those who are supporting Modi in the UK and other parts of the world. Without substantial evidence they will not make such documentary. They know the consequences if they just filmed the documentary without solid evidence. Instead of playing dirty game by sending IT team to the BBC offices in Mumbai & Delhi, why can't Modi sue them? Does he have guts to sue them? Does Ad Ani have guts to sue Hinderberg? Instead of draping Indian flag to get sympathy from Indians, go and sue them. These people know if they sue them, many more skeletons will come out from closet.

To protect and safeguard one individual, the country is crucifying democracy. This is nothing but authoritarian rule. Nothing can question him, nobody can say a thing about him. He is above the law and is also equated with God. Unless the country puts an end to all this, darker days are bound to follow.

BBC will not be cowed done by this tit-for-tat unprofessional attitude of our govt and BBC has nothing to hide like our govt and even this raid will be broadcasted by BBC to the world to show our govt’s nervousness and insecurity. Govt should have taken much more matured approach and tackled through proper channels. Only the guilty with rowdy mentality take this back door route like a coward. This is not face to face direct confrontation but just to appease the domestic audience. FYI, BBC will continue with its professional and fact based broadcasting service and this attitude of our govt will give more opportunity to BBC to open the cupboard of BJP filled with skeletons. The international fight for justice against BJP has just started and BJP’s run for cover is getting thinner and shorter. BBC has all its card intact but BJP’s cards are falling. BBC loves india so India has nothing to do with this its a fight between BBC and BJP. .

Those who are supporting raids against media , please understand that people fought and died for the freedom we are enjoying today and that freedom is at risk today. And also in future If someone from BJP is bothering you or your family no one will dare to stand against them (that is autocracy) , like in North Korea

That’s why they have always highlighted the Kashmir issue in favour of Pakistan. They never fail in reporting isolated incidents of communal riots or attacks on minorities in India, but never ever speak a word about ongoing persecution of minorities in Pakistan. Question is why was it not closed earlier? Because it is now that the Govt. felt the actual pinch.

Country which attacked and ruled more than 75 countries now are facing trouble in there palace and also in there home down. Why did they looted wealth of other countries who are not in a position to defend themselves. During World War Germany and Japan trying to destroy Britain latter taken help of America to defend it. On that time everywhere businesses are of Britain. America agreed to use nuclear bomb on one condition britain should all countries one by one occupied by themselves. For that reason we received independance and other countries in the same time as of 1947. Actually Britain wants to destroy Japan's main city Tokyo but unfortunately aeroplane carrying nuclear bomb set wrong time as such bombed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Britain destroyed by loot many countries in Asia, Africa and in Europe. Now they face what they sow with disturbances foreseen internally from islamic radicals.

Sudharshan, get your facts right first. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed by Americans and Britain did not have a nuclear weapon then. British and Ireland is ruled by Hindu Prime Ministers and they don’t endorse what feku and gang are doing. Democracy depends on freedom of press. If the press and judiciary becomes impotant and controlled by government then democracy is lost. Don’t forget how many people lost their lives and went to prison to earn that. People who get 5 rupees line should first check facts and stop spreading fake stories. G20 will be watching these development with interst.
