Review: One should not give it a miss, for after a long time, the audience will get to see a neat and clean comedy, with no double-meaning dialogues in it and no cuss words. Surprised, eh? Well, it’s a pleasant change! Call the movie, a complete package of entertainment with memorable performances by Vinay Pathak and Kay Kay Menon. It is an extension of part one, a sequel that’s not bad.
Story: Bollywood’s original idiot Bharat Bhushan played by Vinay Pathak returns, after a gap of four years. In this instalment, Bharat, a tax inspector by profession, joins a reality show in a hope to win a big cash prize. There, he meets a sweet and straightforward Ranjini (played by Minissha Lamba), the executive producer of the show. He is bowled over by her simplicity and honesty. Bhushan, who wins the competition, gets to go on a cruise ship where, he meets a blunt, arrogant, womanizer business-tycoon- Ajit Talwar (Kay Kay Menon ).
While both Ajit and Bhusan land up on a deserted island, what follows next is a string of odd ball occurrences and one thing leading to other.
Story Treatment: Since, the part one of the flick was a massive hit and widely watched, it won’t be a surprise, if the viewers draw parallels with the sequel. However, ‘Bheja Fry 2’ fails to match the audience expectation to some extent, thanks to the benchmark that was set with the first instalment. Few of the scenes in the movie lack the right punch which and fail to tickle the funny bone. Narration and story treatment is ‘okay’ though, the second half of the movie is a bit too dragged. However, if one is fine with ignoring the technical aspects, this shall prove to be a decent time-pass!
Star Cast: As predicted, Vinay Pathak turns out to be the star of the movie. Feels like a single man movie, though Kay Kay Menon comes out well in the role of a witty business man. Minissha doesn’t have much scope to perform and ends up being a mere eye-candy for the viewers. Suresh Menon tries hard to be comically stern but, fails to pull it off efficiently, while talented actor, director Amol Gupte, in the role of an eccentric photographer is underutilised.
Direction: Saagar Ballery fails to recreate the same magic with 'Bheja Fry 2' if one compares the film with the original. Though, Saagar has a grasp on direction but, the story line seems to have its flaws. The film is a bit dramatic with no connections between the scenes. The funny act shot between Vinay and Kay Kay on the cruise is one of the most engaging moments in the film. However, this time too, the movie does not have any particular message in it.
Music/ Cinematography/ Dialogues/Editing: In contrast to ‘Bheja Fry’ which was song less film, this part has 4 songs. Song 'Ishq Da Keeda' sung by Ishq Bector has already clicked well with audience. The music has been composed by Ishq Bector, Sneha Khanwalkar, Sagar Desai. Most songs seem for promotional reasons, just standing to be the edgy numbers that will keep your foot tapping. The dialogues are sure to catch your attention but, the cinematography by Parixit Warrier has nothing great to offer and is passable.
Ups and Down: 'Bheja Fry 2' delivers great performances from Vinay Pathak as well as Kay Kay Menon with impressive dialogues. Though story turns out to be a bit stretched and predictable in the second half. The movie appears to be a one-time watch!
